Hungry Food

So, I'm back, freezing, and exhausted... I had a great time in Madrid, a great time with my friends and a great time with my family. All this compressed in 38 hours...

I came back on Saturday, feeling like crap from having slept too little and traveled too much. But yesterday I went to bed at 20:30 and this has kept me going today at work!

Whenever I'm hungry, I transform into a horrible monster that wants to eat NOW. Whatever. But now. So this is going to be a sample of what I cook when I get hungry-cranky!

On Sunday, I cooked the rest of the cauliflower, which was screaming at me every time I opened the refrigerator. I wasn't feeling original, so I just cooked it, and ate it with a store-bought tomato and olive sauce I had bought the day before. (Somehow, I had foreseen that Sunday was going to be tough...)

I don't like this photo, but it just wasn't pretty. I'll get over it.
I had a side of fries with it, because... Do I need a reason? Because I was cranky and feeling like crap.

See? Unhealthy food photographs better...

Today I had a good idea and a bad one. The good idea was to buy this:

A new brand of vanilla soy ice cream. It tastes great! Maybe even better than tofutti ice cream? If you are in Germany and want to look for it, I found it in Tegut, but it's new, they didn't have it until last week.

And the bad idea was to cook this:

I admit that it doesn't look bad, but it was! This is what happens when I get too hungry... I used puff pastry instead of pizza crust! (I did it on purpose, and I knew it was a bad idea because I've done it before...)
It's just not good... The pastry under the tomatoes isn't done, but I had to take it out because otherwise it would've burnt. Bah, I'll survive this as well...

Welcome back! Congratulations on your graduation! Drop me a note when you get a chance - I want to ask you some questions about German vegan food. Best wishes!

I heard about this ice-cream years ago but never had the luck to find it over here. Do they have other flavours too?

Nice to see that the tofu ice cream is now available abroad. I am Swedish and have been enjoying it for many years, even long before I turned vegan. And many of my non-vegan friends love it, and prefer it compared to milk based ice cream.

Is vanilla the only flavour available in Germany? Several others are part of the Swedish line, including chocolate, raspberry and moccha.

I'm sorry you're feeling like crap. i feel the same way, I just NEED to eat, and I end up eating crappy food that's gross. Yuck! Sorry to hear that puff pastry was gross, it looks REALLY good.

When I'm hungry, I turn into a monster too!! Just a question, I'm thinking of chopping the cauliflower in a blender then stir fry it with some pasta sauce ... do you think that will get rid of the cauliflower 'taste'??

Aww I hope you feel better soon. Going to bed early is always comforting:)
That pizza looks delicious, but after your description I guess I can see why you didn't like it too much. Better luck tomorrow!

I love it that you post your bad ideas too. I'm so full of bad ideas and yes, a LOT of them are repeat offenders (you'd think I'd learn, but apparently I don't :P)

Well, the pizza looks great anyway and you never need an excuse for fries. They are a food group after all ;)

Welcome back =)
Is it still cold in Darmstadt? I was freezing my ass of yesterday, but it's getting sunny again. Tomorrow I'm probably going to complain about how it's wayyy to hot =p

YUmmm, that tomato olive sauce sounds great. I haven't had olives in a while and now I crave them.
You also reminded me that I have forgotten about the fabulous cauliflower... I'd happily steal this plate from you =)

Aww mean, there's no tegut store in Berlin.

And crap about the puff pastry. I bought some moooonths ago and have never used it. When I remembered it and wanted to make some blueberry pockets I realized it wasn't vegan anyway. But your pizza sure looks deliciious!

I hate it when I'm hungry and have to make something- I often cut corners, too, and then, well, regret it! Oh well...the pizza does *look* good...

What an action packed short trip! I bet you are exhausted.

I become a cranky monster when I'm hungry too. Your cauliflower would have been fine with me!

Too bad your pizza didn't turn out, it looks beautiful.

That pizza looks great. Sucks it didn't taste great. I love puff pastry!

And your cauliflower pic is very pretty. I like the contrast between the white and the red.

Welcome home!

You're right-- it doesn't LOOK bad. But I'll take your word for it that it was. Oh well, what a good excuse to have soy ice cream for dinner!!!

Welcome back! I get the same way when I'm hungry - I just need to eat, NOW. I don't usually have the presence of mind (or patience) to actually cook something though, so I usually just end up doing something silly like eating peanut butter straight out of the jar. Not pretty.

I go for carbs, carbs and more carbs when I'm cranky and hungry. The bowl of fries is looking pretty good :)
